SERIES HISTORY - TRANSYLVANIA | DENISON | MARYVILLE

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team heads to the Pat Deacon Classic hosted by Transylvania University this weekend.

The Schedule: The Quakers will face host Transylvania at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Denison University and Maryville University (Tennessee) will play in the other semifinal game at 5 p.m. The consolation game of the classic is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday with the championship slated to begin at 3 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington, Transylvania, Denison and Maryville. The Quakers enter the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record having most recently defeated Kenyon College 53-43 at home on Wednesday, Nov. 16. The Pioneers are also unbeaten having won two games in Texas last weekend while the Big Red are 3-2 and riding a two-game winning streak. The Scots are 1-2 on the season and most recently fell to Centre College 75-49 on the road on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of third-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Juli Fulks, a graduate of Capital University, is in her eighth season as Transylvania's head coach while Maureen Hirt is in her first season as Denison's head coach. Darrin Travillian has been Maryville's head coach since the 2010-11 season. He's led the Scots to 237 victories. 

The Players: Wilmington is led by two senior guards as Kennedy Lewis and Zahrya Bailey both score over 10 points per contest. Lewis leads the way with 16.8 points and is joined by Marisa Seiler in rebounding as both grab 5.8 boards per 40 contest. The Springboro native also assisted on four Wilmington baskets per game. A trio of Pioneers - Laken Bell, Madison Kellione and Dasia Thorton - score in double figures with Ball leading the way at 18 points per game. Mikaila Carpenter leads Denison to the tune of 14.2 points per game while Courtney Carruthers scores 18 points per contest for Marville. 

Recent History: Since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s, Wilmington is 2-2 against Transylvania, 3-2 against Denison and 2-0 against Maryville. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
