Women's Basketball Travels to Heidelberg in Search of Season Sweep

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team looks for a season sweep of Heidelberg University when the Quakers head to Tiffin for a 4 p.m. contest on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Heidelberg. The Quakers are 10-8 overall, 4-7 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) games and looking to snap a three-game losing streak after a 74-66 defeat to No. 18 Ohio Northern University at home on Thursday. The Student Princes are 2-15 overall and in search of their first conference victory after a low-scoring 47-37 defeat to No. 10 Baldwin Wallace University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of third-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Rachel Ferri, a 2013 graduate of Catholic University in the nation's capitol, is in her third season as Heidelberg's head coach. She previously spent time as Christopher Newport University as an assistant coach.

The Players: Kennedy Lewis leads Wilmington in scoring at 12.7 points per game while a trio of Quakers - Jada Pohlen, Marisa Seiler and Zahrya Bailey - score at least eight points per game. Lewis leads the team in assists at 3.1 per game while Seiler grabs 6.0 rebounds per contest. Defensively, senior Cassidy Lovett steals 2.3 balls per game, good for second in the conference. Hallie Rogers leads Heidelberg in scoring while Alyssa Martin and Cheyanne Bean both grab over five rebounds a game.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 61.9, Heidelberg 49.9; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 59.0, Heidelberg 64.0; field goal percentage – Wilmington 36.6, Heidelberg 31.8; three-point percentage – Wilmington 26.0, Heidelberg 20.5; free throw percentage – Wilmington 73.7, Heidelberg 62.8; rebounding margin – Wilmington +1.3, Heidelberg -1.8; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.72, Heidelberg 0.50.

Recent History: Wilmington is 42-8 against Heidelberg since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The Quakers won the first matchup this season, 61-51 at Hermann Court in December of 2022. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
