Road Week for Women's Basketball Begins With Muskingum on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team travels to Muskingum University for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Muskingum. The Quakers bring a 13-8 overall record into the matchup including an even 7-7 mark in OAC contests after a 72-53 win over the University of Mount Union on Saturday. The Muskies are 8-13 overall and 5-9 league games having most recently beaten Heidelberg University 68-40 on Saturday. 

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of third-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fifth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Kelly Broderick is in her first season as Muskingum's head coach. She came to the conference after a four-year stint as head coach at Medaille University (New York).

The Players: The Quakers have four players that score at least 8.5 points per game including fifth-year senior Kennedy Lewis who leads the team at 12.5 points per game. Fellow senior Zahrya Bailey averages 8.9 points per game and is coming off of a career-high, 22-point performance in WC's win over Mount Union on Saturday. A pair of freshmen - Jada Pohlen and Marisa Seiler - combine for 18 points per game while Cassidy Lovett steals over two passes a contest. Claudia Harrington and Caitlyn DeMassimo both score in double figures for Muskingum with Harrington leading the way at 12.7 points per contest. The Musky duo also combines for over a dozen rebounds a game.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 62.2, Muskingum 59.0; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 5.7, Muskingum 60.8; field goal percentage – Wilmington 37.3, Muskingum 40.2; three-point percentage – Wilmington 25.7, Muskingum 32.0; free throw percentage – Wilmington 72.4, Muskingum 77.4; rebounding margin – Wilmington +1.3, Muskingum -6.3; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.72, Muskingum 0.81.

Hot of Late: Both teams are coming in playing well as Wilmington has won three straight games and Muskingum has been victorious in three of its last four games.

Recent History: Wilmington is 44-7 against Muskingum since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The Quakers beat the Muskies 65-57 in the first matchup of the season. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
