WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team closes out a four-game homestand by hosting Kenyon College on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Kenyon. The Quakers enter the matchup with a 3-0 record having won the 2022 Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament over the weekend. In the tournament's championship game, WC triumphed over Ohio Wesleyan University 62-59 in overtime. The Owls are an even 1-1 on the season. After a thrilling one-point victory (55-54) over Defiance College in the season-opener, Kenyon most recently fell to Capital University 60-49. 

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of third-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Mary Corbett, a graduate and former assistant coach at Otterbein University, is in her first season as Kenyon's head coach. 

The Players: Kennedy Lewis, who was named Most Valuable Player of the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament, leads the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game and is also the squad's leader in rebounding (6.0 RPG) and assists (4.7 APG). Fellow senior guard Zahrya Bailey averages a dozen points and is one of five Quakers - alongside Marisa Seiler, Lewis, Jaylah Captain and Brooke Stover - to grab at least five rebounds per contest. The Fairfield High School alumna also steals three passes per contest. Kenyon is led in scoring by the duo of Katie Orefice and Claudia Cook, both of whom score over 15 points per game. The two combine to score 72 percent of the Owls' points while grabbing over nine rebounds each. 

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 71.3, Kenyon 52.0; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 63.0, Kenyon 57.0; field goal percentage – Wilmington 35.9, Kenyon 30.8; three-point percentage – Wilmington 24.2, Kenyon 12.2; free throw percentage – Wilmington 81.1, 67.5; rebounding margin – Wilmington +8.3, Kenyon -.10; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.73, Kenyon 0.40.

Recent History: Wilmington is 3-1 against Kenyon since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The last time the two team's played, however, the Owls bested the Quakers 65-57 at Fred Raizk Arena. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
