GAME PROGRAM - HEIDELBERG | DEFIANCE

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team hosts a pair of twinbills - an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest with Heidelberg University and a non-conference twinbill with Defiance College - at the WC Softball Complex this weekend.

The Schedule: The Heidelberg senior, which also features Senior Day, will take place on Saturday with the two games with the Yellow Jackets slated for Sunday. First pitch of both days is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington, Heidelberg and Defiance. The Fightin' Quakers are an even 12-12 overall and 5-7 in conference games having most recently split a non-conference doubleheader with Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday. The Student Princes are 18-12 overall and an even 7-7 in OAC games having swept john Carroll University at home on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets stand at 16-10 and 7-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) games having swept Manchester University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 15th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and also heads the College's coaching minor. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Mari Briggs is in her fourth season as Heidelberg's head coach while Megan Warren, a Defiance alumna, has been the head coach at her alma mater since the 2019 season.

The Hitters: Judaea WilsonLindsey Carter and Hayley Suchland are atop to Wilmington lineup in most games as well as in the batting average category. The first two hit over a .400 clip with 10 doubles while Suchland has stolen a team-best eight bases. For Heidelberg, Kat Brady has a .481 batter average to go along with 27-of-29 stolen bases while Emma Dean has driven in 36 runs. A trio of Yellow Jackets - Marissa Roberts, Kalin Hubble and Brooke Silcox - have hit at least a dozen doubles. Coincidentally, all three carry a .495 batting average.

The Pitchers: Alexis StringfellowIzzy Rothrock and Carter have pitched the majority of innings in the circle for Wilmington with Stringfellow and Rothrock having pitched over 40 innings. Stringfellow has a team-best 2.50 ERA while Rothrock has fanned 32 batters. For the Student Princes, Caitlin Dems has pitched 79 innings and has 37 strikeouts and a 2.75 ERA. For the Yellow Jackets, Taylor Biggs has a 2.69 ERA in 80.2 innings pitched. She's struck out 66 batters for Defiance.

Senior Day: A brief ceremony for four seniors - Hayley Suchland, Kennedy Clifton, Hannah Hall and Andrea Edmisten - will be held prior to game one of the Heidelberg series on Saturday.

Series History: Wilmington is 11-15 against Heidelberg since the 2009 season. The Quakers, who have not played Defiance during that span, too 3-of-4 from Heidelberg a season ago. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
