Softball To End Week With Road Trips to Capital and Mount Union

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team continues its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) slate with a pair of twinbills on the road to close out the week before the Easter Holiday weekend. The Fightin' Quakers will travel to Capital University for two games on Thursday beginning at 3 p.m. and hit the road to Alliance for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the University of Mount Union on Friday.

The Teams: Wilmington, Capital and Mount Union. The Quakers enter the weekend with a 9-9 overall record and 3-5 mark in OAC play after falling in a pair of home games to Marietta College on Tuesday. The Comets are 3-17 overall and 1-7 in OAC games after a pair of one-run defeats at Baldwin Wallace University on Sunday. The Purple Raiders stand at 12-16 overall, 206 in confernece competition and travel to John Carroll University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 15th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and also heads the College's coaching minor. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Andrea Nagy, a 2014 alumna of Cleveland State University, is in her third season as the Comets' head coach while Meghan Simons, a 2010 graduate of Mount Union, is in her seventh season as head coach at her alma mater. Simons led the Purple Raiders to an OAC regular season title last year.

The Hitters: Judaea Wilson and Lindsey Carter both hit over a .400 clip for Wilmington with Carter leading the team in doubles (9) and RBIs (13). Hayley Suchland, Mollie Moore and Claire Scully all hit at least a .375 clip with Suchland swiping a team-best seven bases. A trio of Comets - Liz Stonerock, Kristlyn Bayles and Lexie Leggett - hit over the .300 mark with Leggett leading the team in RBIs with 15. Hannah Ingram and Alyssa Rose have both driven in over 20 runs for Mount Union while Grace Heath has stolen 22-of-24 bases.

The Pitchers: A trio of Quakers - Alexis Stringfellow, Izzy Rothrock and Carter - have pitched over 76 of the team's 120 innings in the circle. All three have ERAs under 4.20 while Rothrock had struckout a team-best 21 batters. Stringfellow, once named OAC Pitcher of the Week, has three victories on the year. Brianna Shearer as been Capital's most effective pitcher to date, striking out 29 batters in 48 innings with a 3.79 ERA. The Mount Union pitching staff has a 2.96 ERA on the season with Alyssa Rose and Peyton Morrison leading the way in innings pitched with 54.0 and 55.1 innings respectively.
