BEXLEY, Ohio - The Wilmington College softball team pounded out 27 hits in 11 innings of an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader sweep of Capital University on Thursday afternoon. The Fightin' Quakers won game one 7-1 and took the nightcap 12-3 in five innings.

In game one, a Sam Schwab single through the right side scoring Andrea Edmisten in the second put Wilmington on the scoreboard, but a walk and two bunt singles from the Comets in the second gave way to an RBI-groundout from Brianna Shearer to tie the game 1-1 after two complete.

That run would prove to be Capital's only of game one. A solo home run off the bat of Lindsey Carter to begin the third was followed by Logann Julian scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth. Pitching command continued to haunt the hosts as Judaea Wilson scored on a passed ball in the sixth. After a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth, the Quakers put together a two-out rally in the seventh. An RBI-double from Wilson, a fielder's choice and an RBI-single from Hayley Suchland gave the visitors three more insurance runs.

Izzy Rothrock won her first OAC game, scattering five hits with five strikeouts and only allowing a single earned run. Hillary Huffer earned a hold by pitching a perfect seventh inning. Shearer took the loss for Capital, allowing a dozen hits and six earned runs with five walks and nine strikeouts.

Wilson finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks and two runs scored at the top of the WC lineup while Suchland, Lizz Hadley, McKenna Archey and Julian all turned in multi-hit games. Tiffany Zuelzke had a pair of hits for the Comets in defeat.

In game two, the Quakers' offense picked up right where it left off. WC scored three runs in each of the first two innings and would have tallied more if not for lineouts to shortstop that ended both innings with multiple runners on base. Up 6-0, Wilmington put the game away with a seven-hit, six-run inning that included two-RBI hits from both Wilson and McKayla Sites. The Comets would plate two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to extent the game into the sixth inning.

Wilmington used four pitches in the game with Alexis Stringfellow getting the win having not allowed a hit in two innings. Hannah Hall, Huffer and Carter also pitched. For Capital, Krislyn Bayles dipped to 0-7 with the loss, allowing six runs (three earned) in two innings.

The Quakers pounded 15 hits in the game including three from Suchland and two from Wilson, Hadley and Claire Scully. Five different Comets had a single hit.

Wilmington, which swept an OAC series for the first time this season, improves to 11-9 overall and an even 5-5 in conference games. The Quakers have a quick turnaround as they hit the road tomorrow (Friday) for Alliance and an OAC doubleheader with the University of Mount Union.
