WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team opens a week that features eight schedules home games with a non-conference twinbill with Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday and an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) tilt with Otterbein University on Thursday. Game times are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
The Teams: Wilmington, Otterbein and Ohio Wesleyan (OWU). The Fightin' Quakers enter the beginning of the week 11-11 overall and 5-7 in conference games after a pair of defeats at the University of Mount Union on Friday. The Cardinals are 20-6 overall and 7-3 in OAC contests after shutting out Baldwin Wallace University in a pair of games on Friday. The Battling Bishops are 8-16 on the seaon having spilt a doubleheader at Kenyon College on Saturday.
The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 15th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and also heads the College's coaching minor. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Bruce Anderson, formerly John Carroll University's top assistant coach, is in his first season as Otterbein's head skipper while Cassie Cunningham is in her 16th season as Ohio Wesleyan's head coach.
The Hitters: Judaea Wilson, Lindsey Carter and Hayley Suchland are atop to Wilmington lineup in most games as well as in the batting average category. All three hit over a .400 clip with at least 30 hits. Wilson and Carter lead the team in doubles (9) while Carter has driven in a team-best 15 runs. Suchland, who has driven in a dozen runs herself, has stolen eight bases. For Otterbein, Hannah Lewis has driven in 25 runs and leads the Cardinals with a .375 batting average. Savannah McCoppin has stolen 13-of-16 bases. For OWU, the Bishop duo of Sophia Cegledy and Rylee Anspach have both driven in double-digit runs with Cegledy leading the team in average at a .388 clip.
The Pitchers: Alexis Stringfellow, Izzy Rothrock and Carter have pitched the majority of innings in the circle for Wilmington with Stringfellow and Rothrock having pitched over 40 innings. Stringfellow has a team-best 2.69 ERA while Rothrock has fanned 27 batters. Otterbein features a 2.67 ERA as a staff with Bryn Grabowski and Jess Gunter hurling all but 10.1 innings for the Cardinals. Grabowski leads the team with a 1.74 ERA, a dozen wins and 63 strikeouts. For OWU, Katie Chittum has pitched over 100 of the team's 153.1 innings. She carries a 3.01 ERA with 80 strikeouts.
