WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team opens its 2022 season with a twinbill against Franklin College on Thursday (note the day change). First pitch from the WC Softball Complex is slated for 3 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Franklin. The Fightin' Quakers finished the 2021 season with a 16-24 overall record while the Grizzlies are off to a 2-4 start after a doubleheader split with Kalamazoo College.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 15th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and also heads the College's coaching minor. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Angie Bain, formerly a student-athlete at Valparaiso University, is in her second season as Franklin's head softball coach.

The Hitters: Wilmington returns two All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) honorees from a season ago in Hayley Suchland and Arianna Layne. Suchland, who is entering her senior season, hit a .299 clip last year with six home runs, 16 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Layne, also the OAC's Rookie of the Year, was Wilmington's best hitter in 2021. The then-freshman carried a .357 batting average with 45 hits, seven doubles, eight home runs and 24 RBIs. A trio of Grizzlies - Genesis Munoz, Sydney Bostic and Annie Kluemper - hit over a .450 clip through six games this season with Bostic leading the team in RBIs with seven.

The Pitchers: On the mound, Suchland threw 69.1 innings and struckout 43 batters with a 4.54 ERA. Alexis Stringfellow also returns for her senior season having led the squad in innings pitched (97.0) and ERA (3.39) last year. She also won eight contests. Lindsey Carter rounded out the Quakers' top three pitchers, hurling just under 70 innings and boasting an ERA of 3.82. Stephannie Kleber and Sydney Potts have both pitched double-digit innings for Franklin thus far this season. Klelber has a team-best 1.80 ERA.

Series History: Wilmington is 3-10 against Franklin since the 2012 season. The Grizzlies have won the last nine matchups. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
