DELAWARE, Ohio - Sophomore Isak Alin broke his own school record in the 100-yard IM to highlight the Wilmington College men's swimming team's performance on the final day of the 2019 Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational on Sunday.
Alin, whose time of 55.11 seconds in the 100-yard IM was put in the program record books last year, swam a mark of 52.42 seconds in the event on Sunday, beating the field by over three seconds. Teammate Jared Shoemaker also placed in the top eight of the event, taking seventh with a time of 1:01.27.
The 100-yard IM wasn't the only event the Fightin' Quakers would have two individuals finish in the top eight as Matt Allen and Ian Darras finished fifth (4:49.10) and sixth (4:52.37) respectively in the 400-yard IM. Samuel Shanes swam a great 1,650-yard freestyle race, placing eighth by tapping the pad in 18:47.19.
"Samuel Shanes swam a great mid-season mile today," Head Men's Swimming Coach Trip Breen said. "He applied a lot of the things he has focused on in training and it definitely paid off."
Wilmington also placed in two relay events. The 400-yard medley relay featured two Quaker squads as Mike Austin, Alin, Aaron Polk and Logan Schroer took third (5:45.59) while Samuel Wallace, Brody Morris, Reed Ashcraft and Shoemaker placed seventh (4:09.45). Wilmington's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Allen, Darras, Isaac Abare and Noan Arend finished seventh (1:42.71).
"The team had a great three sessions and swam as fast as they did being unrested," Breen said. "We still have a lot to work to do as we prepare for the second half of the season, but after this weekend, I am excited about the process."
As a team, the Quakers finished fourth with 482 total points.
Wilmington returns to the pool for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) dual meet with the University of Mount Union on the road on Jan. 18, 2020.
