Alin Breaks Own Record in 100-Yard Breastroke on Day Two of OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – Wilmington College men's swimming sophomore Isak Alin broke his own school record in the 100-yard breaststroke on day two of the 2020 OAC Championships on Friday.

Alin finished fifth in the event with a time of 56.97 seconds, breaking his old record by over half of a second. A trio of other Quakers – Brody Morris (1:01.57), Ian Darras (1:04.64) and Jared Shoemaker (1:07.97) placed fourth, sixth and eighth respectively in the consolation final. That wasn't the only event Darras placed in as the junior represented Wilmington in the 400-yard IM, taking third in the consolation final with a mark of 4:44.48.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Aaron Polk picked up a runner-up finish in the consolation final with his time of 52.82 seconds. Stefan Johnson also swam in the event placing sixth (1:07.33). Logan Schroer scored a seventh-place finish (1:50.58) in the consolation final of the 200-yard freestyle while Mike Austin (57.94 seconds) and Reed Ashcraft (58.52 seconds) placed sixth and eighth respectively in the consolation final of the 100-yard backstroke.

Wilmington's 200-yard medley relay squad of Austin, Alin, Polk and Schroer took home third-place honors with a time of 1:39.32 while Shoemaker, Austin, Samuel Shanes and Ashcraft took fifth (7:58.09) in the 800-yard freestyle relay.

After two days of competition, the Quakers stand in fifth place with 178 total points. Defending champions John Carroll University lead the way with 630 points with the University of Mount Union in second with 527 points. Ohio Northern University (362 points) and Baldwin Wallace University (239 points) round out the standings.

The final day of the championships begins with preliminaries at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
