AKRON, Ohio – Isak Alin headlined the Wilmington College men's swimming team's performance on day one of the 2020 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Swimming & Diving Championships held at Akron University's Ocasek Natatorium.
Alin broke the school record in the 200-yard IM twice in one day. He swam a time of 1:54.68 in the morning prelims. Several hours later, the sophomore earned All-OAC honors by finishing the championship final in third place with a time of 1:53.59.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Aaron Polk swam nearly identical times in both the morning prelims and the consolation final. The sophomore finished the consolation final in eighth place by tapping the mat in 5:05.13, just two-hundredths of a second slower than his time during the morning session.
In the 50-yard freestyle, both Reed Ashcraft and Jared Shoemaker will serve as alternates in this evening's consolation final as Ashcraft swam a time of 24.03 seconds and Shoemaker tapped the pad in 24.15 seconds.
The Fightin' Quakers had two relay teams placed fifth including Samuel Wallace, Shoemaker, Ashcraft and Mike Austin opened the weekend by swimming a time of 1:41.21 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In the evening finals, Polk, Ashcraft, Schoer and Alin improved on that time by over 10 seconds, posting a mark of 1:30.79. The 400-yard medley relay squad of Austin, Alin, Polk and Schroer finished the evening finals fifth with a time of 3:37.29.
As a team, Wilmington sits in fifth place after day one with 73 points. Defending champions John Carroll University lead the way with 250 points while the University of Mount Union is in second with 223 points. Ohio Northern University (152 points) and Baldwin Wallace University (95 points) are in third and fourth respectively.
Day two of competitions gets underway with morning prelims at 10 a.m. on Friday.
