Men's basketball gears up for 2017-18 season

WILMINGTON, Ohio- The Wilmington College men's basketball team will look to be very competitive during the 2017-2018 campaign.

K.C. Hunt will be returning for his 11th season as the head men's basketball coach at Wilmington College.  Coming into this season, Coach Hunt's record at Wilmington is 137-128 and he will be looking to improve on a 9-16 record from the 2016-17 season.

Wilmington will return 11 players and four starters to the floor, including seniors Christian Jones, D.J. Iles, Nathan Scott and junior Andrew Russell.  Jones a returning All-OAC Honorable Mention honoree posted a very successful season in his junior year at Wilmington. Jones averages a team-high 12.5 points per game while shooting an outstanding 83.8% from the free throw line. Scott will also return this year as the second leading scorer from the 2016-17 season who averaged 10.0 points per game.

The Quakers will lean on returning point guard D.J. Iles to lead the way with initiating the Quaker offense and being a great distributor of the basketball.  Last year Iles led the way with averaging 3.9 assists per game while also chipping in with 7.7 points per game.

Along with four returning starters, juniors Will Patrick, Kevin Lewis Jr. and sophomore Payton Lewis will be heavily relied on to be main contributors both off the bench and as potential starters. The trio combined for 14.3 points per game along with averaging 4.1 assists per game.  The trio also played in all 25 games along with starting in a handful of them as well.

The returning Quaker group also includes Jordan Jones, Trent Gilmore, William Hansford and Aaron Mullins. Wilmington will also be adding six fresh faces this year. The 2017-2018 roster will now feature Jalon Horton, Kameron Culp, Shea Mercer, Colin Myers, Tarius Hagood and Brandon Cox.

The Quakers will kick off their 2017-18 season on Wednesday, November 15, as they travel to Crestview Hills, KY to take on Thomas More College.

Wilmington will play their first home game on Wednesday, November 29, when they host Defiance College in non-conference action. They will then open OAC play as they host Mount Union on Saturday, December 2nd.
