Northern Kentucky tops Basketball in exhibition contest 93-65

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Wilmington College men's basketball team lost 93-65 against Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon. 


STATS LEADERS

Andrew Russell recorded a team high 14 points on 5-10 shooting in Wilmington's 2017-18 season opening exhibition game.

Nathan Scott also scored in double figures with 13 points and added one steal and one block.

Will Scott chipped in with 10 points on 4-7 shooting, while adding two assists and one steal.

 
TURNING POINT

Northern Kentucky's McDonald's layup with 5:02 left in the first half sparked a 13-3 run to help the Norse take a 51-28 lead and put the game out of reach.

 
FIRST-HALF SUMMARY

Wilmington's offense looked good in the first half shooting a respectable 44.0% on a good Northern Kentucky defense.  Wilmington also shot 33.3% from the three point range along with 75.0% from the charity stripe.  Northern Kentucky's offensive shooting percentage was off the charts in the first half, hitting a remarkable 52.0% mark, ultimately giving them a 52-32 lead at the half. 

 

SECOND-HALF SUMMARY

The Norse got off to a fast start to begin the second half, outscoring Wilmington 13-2 in the opening 4:30 of the period to extend the lead to 65-34. McDonald scored 15 points in the first 5:03 of the half. NKU went ahead by as much as 34 points in the period and won the game by a final score of 93-65. Wilmington went 12-of-32 (37.5%) on field goals during the half. 

 
GAME NOTES

Wilmington had 11 different players score in the contest, with three players scoring in double figures.

Wilmington had a 76.2% to 72.7% advantage at the free throw line.

Wilmington was able to force 17 turnovers from Northern Kentucky.
