Men's Basketball Looks for to Avenge Loss to Mount Union on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's basketball team brings its three-game winning streak to Alliance on Saturday as the Fightin' Quakers take on the University of Mount Union. Tip-off from the McPhearson Academic and Athletic Center is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Quakers are 8-9 overall and 4-7 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play after knocking off Ohio Northern University 95-77 on Wednesday evening. The Purple Raiders are an even 9-9 overall and 5-6 in conference despite losing their last three games including a 98-66 loss at John Carroll University most recently.

The Coaches: K.C. Hunt enters his 11th season as head coach of Wilmington's men's basketball program. Hunt, who has coached two All-Americans and seven of the school's 1,000-point scorers, led the Quakers to OAC Tournament titles in 2010 and 2014. He garnered Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors for guiding Wilmington to OAC Tournament title and a win in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2010. Mike Fuline has led Mount Union to five consecutive winning seasons in his six years as head coach.

The Players: A trio of Quakers average double figures in scoring including Christian Jones who leads the squad in scoring at 18.9 points per game. Fellow senior Nathan Scott, who has scored at least 15 points in the last four games, averages 14.6 points per game to go along with nearly four rebounds per contest. Will Patrick is the other Quaker who scores in double figures. Andrew Russell leads the squad in rebounding at 4.1 boards per contest while D.J. Iles dishes out 3.3 assists per game. JJ Kukura leads the Purples Raiders in scoring (17.6 points per game) and rebounding (5.7 boards per contest) while Nathan Bower-Malone scores in double figures and assists on nearly four Mount Union baskets per game.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 82.9, Mount Union 79.2; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 83.1, Mount Union 77.1; field goal percentage – Wilmington 42.9, Mount Union 45.0; three-point percentage – Wilmington 37.8, Mount Union 37.5; free throw percentage – Wilmington 77.3, Mount Union 72.5; rebounds per game – Wilmington 31.4, Mount Union 35.1; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 1.14, Mount Union 1.22.

First Time Around: Mount Union ended the game on an 11-1 run to escape Fred Raizk Arena with a 76-73 victory on Dec. 2, 2017.
