Men’s Basketball takes on #14 Christopher Newport in the final

The Wilmington College Men's Basketball program took on one of the best teams in the country today in #14 Christopher Newport in the final of the Rotary of Frederick Holiday Classic. The game ended in favor of Christopher Newport 89-64.

After a glorious victory over Hood College in the first round, the Fightin' Quakers earned a bid to the big game and took on a big-time foe in the nationally ranked Captains.  Coming into this game, the Quakers were looking to capitalize and did so by getting 20 points off of turnovers, in comparison to CNU's 11.

"We played a great opponent tonight. It was a great learning experience for us as a group" Coach Hunt stated, "We need to keep getting better in all phases of the game and keep moving forward."

The Quakers shot 62.5% from the line, going 15-24 and scored the most 3-pointers of either team throughout the game. 3 different Quakers went 4-10 from the field: Senior Guard D.J. Iles (Fayetteville-Perry/Fayetteville, OH), Junior Forward Andrew Russell (Central Crossing/Columbus, OH), and Junior Guard Will Patrick (Pickerington Central/Chester, PA). Joining the stat leaders was Senior Forward Nathan Scott (Eastern/Sardinia, OH) who was near perfect from the free throw line, going 87.5% (7-8).

With this being the last game of the tournament, selections for the All-Tournament team have been made. From the Quakers, Senior Nathan Scott and Junior Will Patrick were selected to represent Wilmington College on the All-Tournament team for the Rotary of Frederick Holiday Classic.

Your Fightin' Quakers will look to the final leg of this 5-game road stand against the Mount Saint Joseph's Lions on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
