TRI-MATCH PROGRAM

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team concludes its 2021 fall campaign with a tri-match with John Carroll University and Olivet College (Michigan) on Saturday.

The Schedule: The Fightin' Quakers will face the Blue Streaks in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match at noon and play the Comets at 4 p.m. John Carroll and Olivet are slated for a neutral site match beginning at 2 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington, John Carroll (JCU) and Olivet. The Fightin' Quakers are 3-23 on the season and looking for their first win in October after a straight-set defeat at Capital University on Wednesday evening. The Blue Streaks are 12-15 overall after a five-set defeat to Heidelberg University at the Tony DeCarlo Center while the Comets is 8-13 in the 2021 fall season and most recently lost to nationally-ranked Hope College in straight sets.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, takes over as head coach. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Michele Benoit is in her sixth season as JCU's head coach while Megan Merchant has led the Olivet program for nine seasons. A trio of Blue streaks – Cassi Calamunci, Kailee Herbst and Brooke Hjerpe – combine for nine kills per set, marking nearly 60% of JCU's offense. Olivet is led by the setting duo of Madison Johnson and Kennedy Blackburn, who combine for nearly 10 assists per set.

The Players: Sofia Thomas is the lone Quaker to average over two kills per set while also chipping in over two digs per set. Six other Wilmington hitters put down a kill per set with Sydney Geibel's 1.65 mark being second-best on the squad to go along with 2.53 digs. Setter Andie Dolven dishes out over six assists per set while libero Blake O'Brien bolsters the back with to the tune of 4.90 digs per set.

Series History: Wilmington is 2-10 against JCU since the 2008 season. The Quakers and Comets have not played during that stretch. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
