Volleyball Heads to Hanover for Weekend Tournament

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team heads to Hanover College for four matches at the Hanover Tournament this weekend.

The Schedule: Wilmington will face Berea College (6 p.m.)  and Trine University (8 p.m.) on Friday followed by Franklin College (noon) and host Hanover College (2 p.m.) on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington, Berea, Trine, Franklin and Hanover. The Fightin' Quakers enter the weekend with a 2-7 record after falling to Earlham College in the Quaker Bowl Rivalry on Tuesday. The Thunder are an even 5-5, the Mountaineers are 5-3, the Grizzlies are 4-5 and the Panthers are 3-6.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, takes over as head coach. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Karlis Dunens is in his first year as Berea's head volleyball coach while Jamie Wozniak has been Trine's coach since 2010. Peter Preocanin has been Hanover's head volleyball coach since the 2000 season while Randi Garrett is also in her first season as Franklin's head volleyball coach.

The Players: Sofia Thomas has been Wilmington's top hitter early in the season as the sophomore averages 2.93 kills per set while libero Blake O'Brien averages 5.38 digs per set. For Trine, Olivia Jolliffe tallies 2.56 kills per set Samantha Carlin puts up 4.33 digs per set. For Berea, Deanna De La Torre puts down over three kills per set. For Franklin, setter Billie Jarrett dishes out nearly 10 assists per set. For Hanover, setter Kelsey Ketcham averages over eight assists per set while Adrianne Vance puts down over three kills per set.
