Volleyball Heads to Capital to Begin Final Week of Regular Season on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team opens the final week of the regular season with a Wednesday evening match at Capital University. First serve from the Capital Center is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Fightin' Quaker are in search of their first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory after falling to Baldwin Wallace University in straight sets on Saturday. The Comets are 5-14 overall and also winless in conference competition, but recently defeated Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) foes St. Vincent College and Thiel College on Saturday.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, takes over as head coach. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Nikki Van Cleave is also in her first year at Capital. She came to Capital from Ohio State University.

The Players: Sofia Thomas leads Wilmington offensively with a 2.29 kills per set average. Three other Quakers – Sydney GeibelVictoria LongJoy Bebe – put down over 1.40 kills per set. Setter Andie Dolven runs Wilmington's 5-1 offense to the tunes of 7.18 assists per set while Blake O'Brien, WC's libero, leads the back row averaging nearly five digs per set. Delanie Hahikian puts down over 3.50 kills per set for Capital while Jordyn Hoffman and Jenay Kocsis run a 6-2 offense and combine to assisted on over nine kills per set.

Series History: Wilmington is 2-12 against Capital since the 2008 season with both victories coming in the last two seasons. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
