Volleyball Looks for Season Sweep of Defiance on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team heads to Defiance College for a noon match on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The Teams: Wilmington and Defiance. The Fightin' Quakers enter the match with a 2-12 overall record having falling to Bluffton University in four sets on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets are 2-7 overall and most recently split a trip-match at Ohio Wesleyan University on Sept. 18, falling to the Battling Bishops 3-0 and defeating Kenyon College 3-1.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, takes over as head coach. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Brie Brenner, a native of Defiance and former All-PAC 12 player at the University of Washington, is in her 10th season leading the Yellow Jacket program. She has a 114-116 record.

The Players: Sofia Thomas leads Wilmington offensively with a 2.62 kills per set average. Three other Quakers – Sydney Geibel, Victoria Long, Joy Bebe – put down over 1.50 kills per set. Setter Andie Dolven runs Wilmington's 5-1 offense to the tunes of 7.77 assists per set while Blake O'Brien, WC's libero, leads the back row averaging 4.81 digs per set. Emma Bonnell and Mackenzie Benham both put down over 2.75 kills per set while Tre'Ana King puts up over four digs per set. 

Series History: Wilmington is 1-2 against Defiance in the last decade. The Quakers won the matchup earlier this season, 3-0 at Hermann Court on Sept. 6. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
