Volleyball Heads to MSJ for Four-Match Weekend

SERIES HISTORY - MOUNT ST. JOSEPH | ANDERSON | MANCHESTER

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team heads to Mount St. Joseph University (MSJ) for the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament this weekend.

The Schedule: Wilmington will face host MSJ and Anderson University (Indiana) at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively on Friday before taking on Greenville University and Manchester University at 10 a.m. and noon respectively on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington, MSJ, Anderson, Greenville and Manchester. The Fightin' Quakers are 2-2 on the season after a straight-set defeat at the College of Wooster on Wednesday while the Lions are 4-1 and most recently defeated Wittenberg University. The Ravens stand at 1-3 having most recently lost to Trine University while the Panthers will begin their season at this tournament. The Spartans are 3-2 on the season after falling in a four-set match at Albion College.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, takes over as head coach. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. John Spinney is in his third season as MSJ's head coach while Tami Miller is in her 18th year as Anderson's head coach. Tom Ackerman, also Greenville's director of athletics, has been the head coach since 2002 while Ivan Matos is in his fourth year at the helm of the Manchester program.

The Players: Sofia Thomas has been Wilmington's top hitter early in the season as the sophomore averages 2.83 kills per set while libero Blake O'Brien averages 4.69 digs per set. Sam Buscher dished out 9.17 assists per set for the MSJ offense while Tess Perdue puts down 2.69 kills per set for Anderson. Mia Bonacorsi is Greenville's top returning offensive hitter having averaged 2.67 kills per set last season while Rachael Ressler leads the Manchester back row with over four digs per set.

Series History: Wilmington is winless against all four of its opponents since the 2013 season with no matches against Greenville. More information on the series histories of the other three opponents can be viewed by visiting the links above.
