Women's Basketball Ends Season with Win at Heidelberg

(TIFFIN, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's basketball team ended their season Saturday afternoon with a victory on the road over the Heidelberg University Student Princes, 78-67. The Quakers shot 50% from the field in the contest and had 25 points in the first quarter to help them cruise to victory as four Quakers finished the game with double-digit points. The team ends the season with a 6-18 overall record and a 4-14 record in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Quakers started the game with an 8-0 lead after less than two minutes of play. Bailey Eddleman had four of the first eight points. The Student Princes would quickly cut the lead down to 10-8 before Wilmington pushed back out to a 17-11 advantage. ZahKyria Walker had five points during this stretch of play. The Quakers held off the Student Princes for the remainder of the quarter and took a 25-20 lead into the second period.

Neither team scored for over three minutes in the second until a Kaleigh Leadbetter layup stopped the cold streak and gave the Quakers a seven-point lead. This lead would eventually grow to 11 at 35-24 after a jumper from Walker with 2:39 remaining in the half. The Student Princes didn't go away throughout the remainder of the quarter and kept themselves in it, using a slight 9-5 run to make it a 40-33 game at the half.

The Quakers kept Heidelberg at bay in the third quarter and held a 52-41 lead after an Eddleman three-pointer with 3:31 remaining. The Quakers held a 57-47 lead heading into the final period of play.

The Student Princes cut the lead to 59-53 with 7:13 left in the game. The Quakers rallied though and put the game out of reach with an 11-4 run to take a 70-57 advantage. They would leave Tiffin with a 78-67 victory.

Notables

  • ZahKyria Walker scored a career-high 23 points for Wilmington, ending the season with 16 games in double-digits.
  • Cassidy Lovett scored 19 for the Quakers, shooting 7-13 from the field and had 15 games this season in double-digits.
  • Bailey Eddleman was 5-8 from the field and scored a season-high 13 points.
  • Keetyn Hupp finished 4-7 from the field and scored 10 points for nine games this season in double-digits.
  • Lovett tied for the game-high in both rebounds with nine and assists with five, while recording a game-high six steals. She finished the season with 79 steals which is third in program history for a single season.
  • The Quakers shot 50% (30-60) from the field, which gave them two games this season shooting 50% or above (52.1% at Mount Union on January 20th).
