Quakers Halted by the Polar Bears Wednesday Night in Ada

(ADA, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's basketball team was defeated by the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears Wednesday night on the road, 65-45. The Quakers are now 3-12 overall this season and 1-8 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The first quarter was back and forth as the two teams were knotted up at 7-7 with 5:30 to play in the period. The Quakers would inch ahead, 11-10 at the 2:16 mark after a layup by Stephanie Altstaetter. The Polar Bears used a 4-0 rally to end the quarter with a 14-11 advantage.

The Quakers started the second period on a 6-2 flurry to snatch a 17-16 lead with 6:18 remaining in the first half. Three pointers from Natalie Rupp and Keetyn Hupp gave the Quakers the lead. However, Ohio Northern ended the half on a 13-3 run to hold a 29-20 lead at the break.

The Polar Bears would stretch their lead to 46-24 with 2:43 remaining in the third quarter. The game went into the final quarter with Wilmington trailing 49-33. The Quakers ultimately fell by the score of 65-45.

Notables

  • Cassidy Lovett scored a game-high 16 points, her eighth game this year scoring in double-digits.
  • Lovett led the team with three assists and tied for the team-lead with six rebounds.
  • ZahKyria Walker and Katie Dryer also grabbed six rebounds for the Quakers.
  • Walker had a game-high four steals for Wilmington.
  • Stephanie Altstaetter and Walker each had one block in the game.

What's Up Next

Wilmington's next contest is on the road in Alliance, Ohio Saturday afternoon where they battle the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders at 2:00 P.M.

The Purple Raiders defeated the Quakers in their first encounter earlier this season, 66-45.
