(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's basketball team earned their first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory of the season Saturday afternoon in Hermann Court on Alumni Day, 60-56 over the Heidelberg University Student Princes. The athletic department honored the women's basketball 2004 National Championship team at halftime, along with other women's basketball alumni and the Quakers gave them something to cheer about in their thrilling win.

The Student Princes jumped out to a quick 12-6 advantage in the first quarter after making a pair of three-pointers to help fuel the early rally. Heidelberg would continue to play well in the first quarter and took a 22-17 lead into the second period.

Neither team scored for the first minute and a half of the second quarter before Stephanie Altstaetter converted a layup for the Quakers to cut it to 22-19. Two more Altstaetter layups would make the score 23-22 in favor of Wilmington with 6:21 to play in the half. The score would be tied at 28-28 before a Cassidy Lovett free throw would get a rally going for the Quakers. This would turn into a 5-0 run for Wilmington to take a 33-28 lead before a late Heidelberg jumper set the score at 33-30 heading into the locker room.

The Quakers held a slight 35-33 advantage early in the third quarter before a quick 6-0 sprint made it 41-33 and forced a Student Princes timeout with 6:12 left in the third quarter. Altstaetter scored four points during this stretch while ZahKyria Walker added the other two. The Student Princes cut into the lead, and it sat a 44-40 before five straight points from Wilmington ended the quarter with them leading 49-40. Altstaetter knocked down a pair of free throws along with a three-point play from Katie Dryer.

Wilmington led 55-44 with 5:58 remaining in the game. This lead was down to 57-52 with 37 seconds to play, as the Quakers struggled to ice the game at the free throw line. Wilmington hung on though and came away with the 60-56 triumph.
