Women's Basketball Drops Road Tilt at Marietta on Saturday

(MARIETTA, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's basketball team lost to Marietta College on the road Saturday afternoon, 69-45. They are now 1-7 overall this season and 0-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). The Quakers had a pair of players score in double-digits in the contest.

The Quakers got off to a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter with a jumper coming from Stephanie Alstaetter and a pair of free throws from ZahKyria Walker. A 9-2 run ensued for the Pioneers to give them a 9-6 advantage with 3:29 remaining in the first quarter. The score at the end of the quarter was 11-8 Marietta.

Wilmington hung tough in the second period, trailing 17-15 with 4:13 to go in the first half. Cassidy Lovett had five of the Quakers seven points up to this point in the quarter. Unfortunately for the Quakers, a 13-5 Pioneers rally gave them a 30-20 lead at the break.

Marietta controlled the second half, outscoring the Quakers 39-25. Wilmington was never able to get within seven points in the half en route to their defeat.

Notables

  • Freshman Stephanie Alstaetter continues to be solid for the Quakers, scoring a game-high 17 points. This is her fourth game this season in double-digits, while also leading the team with six rebounds.
  • Freshman Olivia Trusty had her second straight game in double-digits with a season high 13 points.
  • Keetyn Hupp and Cassidy Lovett each had five rebounds in the game.
  • ZahKyria Walker led the team with three assists.
  • Lovett and Walker each had three steals, with the Quakers having 10 steals to the Pioneers five and blocking four shots to their three.

The Quakers will be back in Hermann Court next Saturday afternoon for Youth Day, hosting the John Carroll University Blue Streaks at 2:00 P.M.
