ADA, Ohio - Ohio Northern University (ONU) held the Wilmington College women's basketball team to 30 percent shooting from the field in a 71-48 victory over the Fightin' Quakers in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action on Wednesday evening.

ONU, ranked No. 10 in the most recent D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll, outscored Wilmington 13-3 in the first five minutes and led 18-8 after one quarter. The Polar Bears would open up as large as a 20-point lead (34-14) midway through the second quarter until a Savannah Hooper three-pointer stopped the hosts run. A Michelle Lee basket off a pass from Kelly Noll sent the Quakers into halftime trailing 38-21.

The Polar Bears, statistically one of the best defensive teams in the OAC and in the country, opened the third quarter on a 9-4 run to put the game out of reach.

Wilmington shot 15-of-50 from the field including a 7-of-16 (43.8 percent) mark from beyond the three-point arc while also making 11-of-12 (91.7 percent) attempts from the free throw line. ONU converted 28-of-68 (41.2 percent) field goal attempts and made 7-of-9 (77.8 percent) free throws. The Polar Bears also won the rebounding battle 43-34 and committed just nine turnovers in the game.

"Ohio Northern played like a top team tonight," Head Women's Basketball Coach Jerry Scheve said. "We just didn't have enough answers."

Amy Bullimore led all scorers a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds for ONU. Emily Mescher also finished in double figures with 10 points off the bench.

Hooper led the Quakers offensively with 11 points while Mackenzie Campbell had six points, seven rebounds and four assists. Brooke Davis gave Wilmington a lift off the bench with four points and five rebounds in 10 minutes.

Wilmington (9-9, 4-7 OAC) hosts the University of Mount Union at Hermann Court on Saturday.
