Bolen highest scoring WC athlete at OAC Split meet

BEXLEY – The Wilmington College women's track and field team placed fourth in the four-team Ohio Athletic Conference South split meet held at Capital University Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) was the highest scoring Wilmington athlete, winning the shot put (12.86) and placing second in the weight throw (13.83).
  • Junior Angela Dorsett (Pittsburgh, PA/West Mifflin) registered the only other Wilmington event victory, winning the triple jump (10.01 meters).
  • Freshman Brooke Gibbons (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) was third in the 800 (2:43.45) and freshman Shanaya Jones (Cincinnati, OH/Fairfield) was fourth in the 400 (1:09.68).
  • Freshman Brooklyn Payne (Chicago, IL/Chicago Agricultural School) was sixth in the 200 (28.35).

QUOTES

  • "It was a tough day for the women," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "We just don't have very many scoring opportunities with such a small squad. One of our top girls (Cierra Johnson) was out with an injury, which made things tougher. We had good wins by Marissa in the shot and Angela in the triple jump."

WHAT'S NEXT

  • The track and field team returns to action Friday, February 5 at the Cedarville Invitational.
