Bolen, Burnam named All-Region

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Two Wilmington College track and field athletes were named All-Great Lakes Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Senior Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) and sophomore Pierce Burnam (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) earned all-regions honors in the shot put and 400-meter hurdles, respectively.

To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.

"Marissa and Pierce both had outstanding seasons," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "They have worked extremely hard and been focused all year. It has paid off for both of them. Marissa is finishing up a great career as one of the top throwers who have ever competed at WC, and Pierce I think is just getting started as a sophomore. "

Bolen, who will be competing in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday, also earned All-Great Lakes Region during the indoor season. She qualified eighth nationally in the shot put with a mark of 13.94 meters. It will be the third time Bolen has competed on the national stage. Bolen finished 11th in the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor track and field championships, and 17th in the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor track and field championships.

Burnam finished 31st nationally in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.93, which was set at the OAC Outdoor championships. His time was just under a half second away from qualifying for the national meet.
