WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's swimming team won seven events in a close Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) dual meet loss to Ohio Northern University on Friday evening. The Polar Bears defeated the Fightin' Quakers 138-122.

Macki Leon had a phenomenal meet winning three individual events along with being a member of a winning relay team. The junior swam a lifetime best time of 2:17.14 to win the 200-meter freestyle by over four seconds. She also won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:11.46 and finished the dual meet with consecutive victories – the 200-meter IM (2:35.72) and as part of the Quakers' 200-meter relay squad.

"Macki had probably the best dual meet of her Wilmington career tonight," Head Women's Swimming Coach Trip Breen said.

Margaret Hover won two individual events including a thrilling 800-meter freestyle (10:27.29) by defeating ONU's Karli Katterle by less than two seconds. She also won the 400-meter freestyle, touching the pad in 5:06.74. Her teammates, freshman Alyssa Harper took second in the event with a mark of 5:18.61.

Hover and Leon teamed up with Anna Endsley and Hannah Davis to win the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 1:57.77.

"Margaret is training really well and having an incredible season so far," said Breen. "It's really fun to see someone put in the work and get the results they deserve."

Davis and Endsley also excelled in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle races. The duo finishes second and third respectively in each race.

"Hannah Davis has been just out-touched the last two weeks, but continues to improve and swim well," Breen said. "Anna Endsley cleaned up a few things this week at practice, applied them in the meet and it paid off."

Maryn Herring turned in a runner-up finish (33.29 seconds) in the 50-meter butterfly while Ashley Carlson tallied the same finish (35.40 seconds) in the 50-meter backstroke. Freshman Fynn Roberts won the 50-meter breaststroke (38.19 seconds) and finished second in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:20.49).

"After a week of great training, I was really pleased that we were able to win a lot of close races," said Breen. "That is a testament to their support for one another."

Wilmington returns to action on Nov. 2 for a double dual meet with Transylvania University and Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.
