Men's Basketball Concludes Their Season With Loss to Heidelberg Saturday

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – It was the final game of the season for the Wilmington College men's basketball team Saturday afternoon at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court against the Heidelberg University Student Princes. The Quakers celebrated their four seniors before the game in Isiah Taborn, Jayden Lewis, Matthew Dugue, and Travis Mitchell. The Quakers would lose the game 79-70 and conclude their season with an overall record of 9-16 and 5-13 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Student Princes stormed out to a quick 8-2 lead before the Quakers used a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 9-8. The run was led by Domenic Farley, who scored five of the seven points.

The two teams would play to a 14-12 Heidelberg lead with 9:11 remaining in the first half. At this point in the half, the Student Princes exploded for a 16-3 run to grab a 30-15 advantage with 5:23 to play in the first half. The Quakers would cut into the lead a bit before the end of the half but would trail by double-digits at the break, 37-26.

The Quakers quickly cut the lead to five points in the early going of the second half, using an 11-5 run to make it a 42-37 game. Jayden Lewis had seven points during this rally for Wilmington.

Heidelberg absorbed the punch though and pushed back out to a 54-44 lead with 12:26 remaining in the game. This lead would extend slightly to 61-50 with just under 10 minutes to play.

The Quakers made a final run in the game, cutting the lead down to five points again at 65-60 with 6:48 left after a 10-4 flurry. Lewis had five points during this stretch of play. This was as close as Wilmington would get during the remainder of the game in the 79-70 defeat.

  • Four Quakers scored in double-digits with Matthew Dugue leading the way with 15 points. He ends the season with 11 games in double-digits for the Quakers.
  • Jayden Lewis finished with 14 points for seven games this season with double-digit points.
  • Domenic Farley scored 12 and had 15 games this season in double-digits.
  • Travis Mitchell scored 11 points to finish the season with three games in double-digits.
  • Dugue led the team with seven rebounds.
  • Lewis and Farley tied for the team-lead with two assists each.
  • Dugue, Lewis, and Mitchell all had two steals in the game.
  • Gavin Heimlich finished with a game-high four blocks, finishing the season with 40 blocks, which is third in program history for a single-season.

The Quakers will return to the floor in late 2024 for the start of the 2024-25 season.
