Four Quakers Score in Double-Digits as Men's Basketball Loses to Capital

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team was defeated at home Wednesday night against the Capital University Comets, 84-75. The Quakers trailed by 18 at the break, and outscored Capital by nine points in the second half, but it wasn't enough as they fall to 5-7 overall this season and 1-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Comets used a trio of three pointers early in the first half to jump out to a 15-4 advantage less than four minutes into the game. Their lead would grow to 13 with 11:10 to play in the half as the score was 28-15 in favor of Capital. The Comets would continue to extend their lead throughout the remainder of the half, as they took a 45-27 lead into the locker room.

The Comets lead would continue to be steady in the second half, with them holding a 73-52 advantage with 5:58 to play. With the score at 80-62 late in the half, the Quakers tried to make one final push. Seven straight points in the span of a minute made the score 80-69 with 1:38 left in the game. However, the Comets would extinguish the rally and win the game 84-75.

Notables

  • Obed Achirem (14), Jayden Lewis (13), Matthew Dugue (11), and Domenic Farley (10) all scored in double-digits for Wilmington.
  • This is Achirem's second game this season scoring in double-digits, Lewis's fourth, Dugue's fifth, and Farley's seventh.
  • Gavin Heimlich, Achirem, and Farley all tied for the team-lead with six rebounds.
  • Farley and Carson Miles led the team with three assists.
  • Travis Mitchell had a game-high three steals and Heimlich had a game-high four blocks.

The Quakers are back on the road Saturday afternoon in Tiffin, Ohio as they battle the Heidelberg University Student Princes at 1:00 P.M.

Wilmington will be looking for their first win at Heidelberg since the 2021 OAC Tournament when they defeated the Student Princes 62-58 on March 2nd, 2021.
