(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team picked up their second win of the season over the University of Mount Union Saturday afternoon with an 81-76 triumph over the #15 ranked Purple Raiders. Mount Union led by 10 at the half, but for the second time this week, the Quakers stormed back in the second half to pick up the victory, scoring 48 points. They are now 8-9 overall this season and 4-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).
The Purple Raiders jumped out to a 14-8 advantage over the first five minutes of the game and would extend their lead to 26-13 at the 10:05 mark of the half.
The Quakers made their mark with a 9-2 rally to cut the lead to six at 28-22. Rashid Chisholm had five points during this stretch. However, the Purple Raiders held strong and took a 37-27 advantage with 3:10 remaining in the half. The Quakers couldn't inch any closer and went into the locker room down 43-33.
The second half began on a similar path to the first as the Purple Raiders continued to hold a steady lead at 50-42 with 16:10 to play in the game. However, this was the start of Wilmington's comeback, as they used a 13-0 explosion for a 55-50 lead with just over 12 minutes left in the game. The run was led by six Carson Miles points and five Domenic Farley points.
Once Wilmington took the lead, they never gave it back. The Purple Raiders cut the lead down to one point on a pair of occasions down the stretch, but a big shot always followed for the Quakers. The first time came with the score at 57-56 with 9:09 left. A 6-0 Quakers rally ensued that was led by a big Farley three-pointer.
The second came at 65-64 with 4:53 to play, Gavin Heimlich knocked down a free throw before a jumper from Obed Achirem and a dunk from Chisholm pushed the lead back to six at 70-64.
The Quakers would hold the Purple Raiders off for the big victory.
Notables
- Rashid Chisholm scored a season-high 26 points on 8-10 shooting for his first game this season with 20 or more points. He added 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
- Domenic Farley scored 18 and Carson Miles scored 13 for Wilmington. Farley now has 10 games this season with double-digit points while Miles has three in his last four games.
- Farley led the Quakers with four assists.
