Heidelberg Defeats Baseball 9-4 in Consecutive Games on Sunday

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team fell to Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader on Sunday. Coincidentally, the Students Princes defeated the Fightin' Quakers 9-4 in both games.

In game one, Heidelberg jumped on Wilmington starter, Jared Ferenchak, with three runs in the first and two in the second. Trailing 5-0, the Quakers got two runs back on RBI-singles to right field from Gage Bley and Kasey Bottorff. After a scoreless bottom half of the inning, Antonio Miller singled home Gavin Perkins in the top of the fourth to get within two (5-3).

The Student Princes pushed their lead back to 7-3. Both teams would plate a single run in the fifth, and Heidelberg would score the last run of the game in the bottom of the eighth.

Ferenchak took the loss allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits in four innings pitched. Jacob Griewahn allowed just one run on seven hits with three strikeouts in the final four innings. Trevor Adkins earned the win for Heidelberg allowing four earned runs in five innings while Mason Metz collected a four-inning save.

Wilmington finished with 10 hits including 2-for-4 performances with an RBI from both Bley and Bottorff while Perkins went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Both Miller and Nick Silvis stole a base.

Heidelberg's lead-off hitter, Kane Bateman, went 5-for-5 with three runs scored while Kyle Jenkins and Zach Doran both finished 3-for-5.

In game two, Wilmington scored first as Bley singled home runner, but similar to game one, Heidelberg scored five runs in the first two innings. After both teams scored a single run in the third, the Student Princes padded their lead with a three-run six inning. The Quakers would get one run in the seventh as Mason Walker scored on a wild pitch. Trailing 9-3, Miller hit an RBI-double that scored Bottorff in the top of the ninth, but a strikeout with the bases loaded ended the game.

Lance Fleischman took the loss allowing five earned runs in three innings. Jarett Trautman allowed three earned runs in the middle three innings while Bryant McCarty pitched the final two innings without allowing a run.

Alex Sir Louis pitched a quality start for Heidelberg allowing two earned runs on seven hits.

Bley, Silvis, Walker and Luke Kleindl all finished 2-for-4 for Wilmington while Matt Psychas tallied a 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs and two runs scored for Heidelberg.

Wilmington (7-27) hosts Miami University-Hamilton on Wednesday.
