Baseball Looks to Stop Skid Tuesday vs. Capital

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team looks to snap an eight-game Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) losing streak on Tuesday when Capital University comes to Tewksbury-Delaney Field for a two-game series slated to begin at 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Fightin' Quakers are 6-21 overall and 2-8 in conference play after falling in two games at Marietta College on Saturday. The Crusaders are 8-19 on the season and 3-7 in OAC play after splitting a series with rival Otterbein University on Saturday.

The Coaches: The 2019 season marks the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his first season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. Ryan Grice is in his 10th season as Capital's head baseball coach.

The Hitters: Gage Bley has been Wilmington's best offensive player through 27 games as the senior leads the team in many offensive categories that include: batting average (.400), hits (46), runs (24) doubles (15) and RBIs (24). Luke Kleindl has a team-best three home runs while Antonio Miller has swiped 19 stolen bases while only being caught five times. Nick Silvis, who is tied with Bley with two triples to lead the team, carries a .340 batting average. Shayne Lyons carries a .414 batting average for Capital to go along with a team-best 46 hits. Connor Richardson has driven in 25 Crusader runs and hits at a .343 clip.

The Pitchers: Jared Ferenchak and Matt Oney both boast ERAs under 5.00 for Wilmington. Ferenchak, who has pitched a team-best 46.2 innings, has a 1-1 record with a single save to go along with his 4.05 ERA. Oney has pitched over 16 innings in relief while Lance Fleischman has a squad-best 32 strikeouts. Scott Gutstein and Alex Mukensturm have combined to start 15 games for Capital with both having ERAs between 5.50 and 5.75. Drew Ellis, the Crusaders' closer, has a 2.77 ERA with four saves.
