Baseball Heads East for Four Games This Weekend

SERIES HISTORY - DENISON

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team heads east this weekend for a set of four games over a three-day period.

The Weekend: The Fightin' Quakers will play Denison University in a doubleheader at Ohio University beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday followed by a doubleheader at Ferrum College (Virginia) at 1 p.m. on Monday.

The Teams: Wilmington, Denison and Ferrum. The Quakers enter the weekend with a 1-5 overall record having fallen in a three-game series at Earlham College last weekend. The Big Red are 4-1 on the year after sweeping Alfred State University on March 2 while Panthers are 6-5 after beginning ODAC play with a sweep of Washington & Lee University on March 2.

The Coaches: The 2019 season marks the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his first season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. Mike Deegan is in his seventh season at Denison while Ryan Brittle is also in his seventh year as head coach at Ferrum.

The Hitters: Gavin Perkins, Aaron Burns and Luke Kleindl all hit over a .350 clip for Wilmington with Kleindl and Gage Bley both leading the squad with two doubles. Bley has a team-best four RBIs through six games this season. The Denison trio of Max Lahn, Will Krushena and Grady Paine all has eight hits including Lahn's team-high five doubles. Jake Martin leads the Ferrum offensive attack with a .359 batting average, three home runs and 16 RBIs.

The Pitchers: Matt Oney has been Wilmington's most effective pitcher thus far as he's pitched five scoreless innings in relief. Lance Fleischman, who was honored as the OAC's Pitcher of the Week last week, has the Quakers' win while also pitching a team-high 11.2 innings. Henry Haack and Kenny Kippman have combined to pitch nearly nine scoreless innings for Denison while Joey Pride carries a 2.35 ERA in 23 innings pitched for the Panthers.

Series History: In the last decade, Wilmington is 0-1 against Denison and has not played Ferrum. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
