Volleyball Continues OAC Play at Ohio Northern on Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on Tuesday when the Fightin' Quakers travel to Ada for a 7 p.m. match with Ohio Northern University.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern. The Fightin' Quakers are 5-15 overall and 0-3 in conference play after falling to the University of Mount Union in straight sets on Saturday. The Polar Bears are 17-4 overall and 3-1 in the OAC thanks to a sweep of Muskingum University on the road on Saturday.

The Coaches: Tim O'Brien enters his fourth year as Wilmington's head volleyball coach. He has improved the Quakers' wins total each of his first three seasons and is looking to break through in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) this season. A 2012 graduate of Siena Heights University, O'Brien was a four-year letter-winner for the Saints' men's volleyball, team and ranks in seven career and seasonal program records. Kate Witte, who recently won her 700th match, has been Ohio Northern's head volleyball coach for 28 seasons.

The Players: Jillian Wesco leads the Wilmington offense with 127 kills for an average of 1.81 kills per set. Karrah Wind, Mariella Szrom and Taylor McCuistion all have over 80 kills while the three of them and Amber Rox put down over one kill per set. The Quakers have three players who have done the majority of the setting including Jacie Koontz who leads the team dishing out 3.05 assists per set. Defensively, Karley Schlensker averages 4.64 digs per set while Szrom has a team-high 42 blocks. Chelsea Huppert leads the Polar Bears averaging over 3.52 kills per set while McKenna Jordan, Madi Ellis and Sydney Bapst al put during at least two kills per set. Katie Wade dishes out over 10 assists per set while Madison Broering and McKenna Hostetler average 470 and 4.13 digs per set.

AVCA Top 25 Poll: Ohio Northern is ranked No. 17 in the most recent AVCA Top 25 Poll. The Polar Bears are the highest ranked OAC team nationally.
