@DubC_XCTR men place seventh at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE – The Wilmington College men's track and field team finished seventh of 10 teams at the Otterbein Track and Field Invitational Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Six of Wilmington nine scoring events were field events.
  • Senior Linden Ayoki (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) scored in two events, placing seventh in the weight throw (13.09 meters) and eighth in the shot put (12.48 meters).
  • Junior Zak Kruer (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) was the highest placing athlete as he was second in the pole vault (4.30 meters).
  • Senior Antone Truss (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) made his return after a one-year hiatus, placing fifth in the high jump (1.78 meters).
  • Senior Leevi Stump (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon) was fifth in the triple jump (11.37 meters).
  • Sophomore Griffin Stith (Batavia, OH/Batavia) was seventh in the 1000 (2:47.90) and eighth in the mile (4:45.97).
  • Sophomore Hunter Stith (Batavia, OH/Batavia) was eighth in the 1000 (2:50.31).

QUOTES

  • "The good part about our meet at Otterbein is that we got a meet under our belt," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "The tough part of that meet is that it shows we have a really long way to go as a team. Now the challenge is to see how many of our athletes want to buckle down and put in the effort and the work each day to improve."
  • "Zak Kruer, in the pole vault, and our throwers were the highlights on the men's side," said Combs. "It's also nice to have Antone Truss back. He's really rusty, but I think by the time we get to the Indoor championship he will be jumping well."

WHAT'S NEXT

Wilmington will participate in the Ohio Athletic Conference South Meet on January 23, 2016 at the Capital Center on the campus of Capital University.
