15 named Academic All-OAC

AUSTINTOWN – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced its Academic All-OAC honors for Spring 2016, and 15 Wilmington College student-athletes qualified for the honors.

The award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade-point- average of at least 3.50.

More than 70 percent of the honorees came from women's lacrosse and softball.

With six honorees, women's lacrosse led the Wilmington College contingent. Sophomore Abby Engelhart (Westerville, OH/North; Political Science/English, 3.81) had the highest GPA on the team, and was joined by seniors Abby Jude (Lancaster, OH/Fairfield Union; Biology, 3.63), Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana; Agriculture/Economics, 3.71), Emily Phipps (Heath, OH/Heath; Education, 3.65), Katie Bennett (Newport, OH/Frontier; Sport Management, 3.51) and junior Kara Griffith (Springfield, OH/Springfield; Criminal Justice/Political Science, 3.51).

Sophomores Sawyer Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington; Education, 3.97) and Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington; Biology, 3.92) posted the two highest female GPAs to lead the softball quintet. Senior Jessie Stewart (Fredericktown, OH/Highland; Business Administration/Marketing, 3.54), junior Olivia Bauer (Williard, OH/Williard; Agriculture, 3.54) and sophomore Becca Carpenter (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern; Criminal Justice, 3.68) round out the softball honorees.

Men's lacrosse player junior Reid Delaney (Wooster, OH/Wooster; Business Administration, 3.98) posted the highest WC GPA. Junior Andrew Esselstein (Dayton, OH/Carroll; Biology, 3.63) was the other men's lacrosse player.

Sophomore Daniel Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek; Sport Management, 3.58) represents baseball, while sophomore Travis Scheadler (Goshen, OH/Goshen; Psychology/Exercise Science, 3.94) was the lone men's track and field representative.
