Zruer scores in vault; Burnam top time in 400 hurdles

The Wilmington College men's track and field team is ninth out of 10 teams following the first day of the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Beckett Track in Williams Stadium on the Wilmington College campus.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Junior Zak Kruer (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) was the only player to score in the first day, placing fourth in the pole vault (4.25 meters).
  • Sophomore Pierce Burnam (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) qualified for Saturday's finals in the 400 hurdles and the 110 hurdles. He posted the fastest time in the 400 hurdles (53.94) and the fourth fastest time in the 110 hurdles (15.41).
  • A host of other Wilmington student-athletes qualified for the conference championships, but didn't score in their event or qualify for the finals.
  • Sophomore Travis Scheadler (Goshen, OH/Goshen) was 19th in the 100 (11.54) and 15th in the 200 (23.16). Freshman Gino Hinton (Maple Hts., OH/Maple Hts.) barely missed out on making Saturday's final in the 100, placing ninth (11.12), while senior Amari Bryant (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) placed 15th (11.42).
  • Three athletes competed in the discus with freshman Ethan Hurtt (Frankfort, OH/Adena) was ninth (41.29), senior Linden Ayoki (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) was 12th (40.92) and sophomore Kalvin Butts (St. John's, MI/St. John's) was 20th (36.70).
  • Sophomore Tony Wydra (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) was 16th in the 3000 steeplechase (10:52.58); sophomore Alex Tillapaugh (Wilmington, OH/Wickenburg (AZ)) was 21st in the javelin (38.93); and senior Leevi Stump (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon) was 17th in the long jump (6.03).
  • The 3200 relay of Gage Egner (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester), Hunter Stith (Batavia, OH/Batavia), Elliot Phillimore (Old Fort, OH/Old Fort) and Rick Price were seventh (8:31.28).
