Women's Swimming Places Fifth at 2022 OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's swimming team concluded its 2021-22 campaign with a fifth-place finish at the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Swimming & Diving Championships, a four-day event held at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium that concluded on Saturday.

The Fightin' Quakers finished the meet with 195 total points. John Carroll University claimed the championship with 950 points and were followed by Ohio Northern University (744), the University of Mount Union (716) and Baldwin Wallace University (433).

Wilmington began the day with three individuals - Sierra Szuhay (2:19.29), Ashley Carlson (2:25.19) and Lilly Lentine (2:40.19) - qualifying for the consolation final in the 200-yard backstroke. In the 100-yard freestyle, Audrey Bibb (58.41 seconds) and Anna Endsley (58.47 seconds) snuck into the consolation final by qualifying in the prelims while Symone Daniels (2:51.36), Emma Thompson (2:56.86) and McKenzie Danhoff (2:58.91) qualified for the consolation final in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The Quakers 400-yard freestyle relay team of Maryn Herring, Bibb, Carlson and Szuhay touched the wall in 4:09.58 to qualify fourth. The quartet swum 10 seconds faster in the finals, but still placed fourth. 

Szuhay won the consolation final of the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:17.25 while Carlson took fifth (2:24.59) and Lentine eighth (2:37.61). Bibb and Endsley both improved one spot from the preliminaries in the consolation final of the 100-yard freestyle while Daniels and Danhoff improves slightly on their swims in the consolation final of the 200-yard breaststroke. Thompson also competed in the event, placing eighth.

"This team has a lot to be proud of as we finished the meet with over 100 lifetime best performances," Head Coach Trip Breen said. "We were led by an outstanding senior class, who finished their Wilmington College swimming career with enthusiasm, supporting their teammates and some great swims. Many thanks to our parent group and Wilmington College for providing us with such a memorable experience."
