Baldwin Wallace Defeats Women's Swimming in Season Opener

RESULTS

BEREA, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's swimming team opened its 2021-22 season with an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) dual meet at Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Fightin' Quakers 158-43.

Individually, Wilmington had five top-three finishes. Emma Thompson took runner-up in two freestyle events, swimming a time of 6:07.04 in the 500-yard freestyle and touching the pad in 12:23.43 in the 100-yard freestyle. Kayla McClintock of Baldwin Wallace won both events. Anna Endsley also had two of those top-three finishes, claiming runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (2:17.39) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.18). The other top-three individual finish came from freshman Sierra Szuhay, who placed second (1:07.48) in the 100-yard backstroke.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Ashley Carlson and Audrey Bibb teamed up with Endsley and Szuhay to finished runner-up with a time of 1:53.21.

"We have a young team, so confidence was a bit of an issue at the beginning of the meet as we made some early mistakes," Head Coach Trip Breen said. "As the swimmers started to race, you could see the confidence start to grow and we had a much better second half of the meet.  Being very early in the season, we have a lot of things that we can improve upon, and I am looking forward to having a great week of practice this week."

Wilmington returns to the pool on Friday evening for an OAC meet at home with Ohio Northern University.
