DELAWARE, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's swimming team improved one spot to finish runner-up at the Corbiere-Marion Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday and Sunday.
"The invitational this weekend was a great experience, specifically for our underclassmen who have not had an experience like this in the last couple of years due to the COVID-19 pandemic," Head Women's Swimming Coach Trip Breen said. "Both teams had numerous lifetime best performances. It was a lot of fun."
The Fightin' Quakers, who were in third place after conclusion on day one of competition, finished with 591 points, 32 ahead of Hiram College, who Wilmington beat in a dual meet earlier this season. Host Ohio Wesleyan won the invitational with 1,045 points.
Sunday featured a dozen of the 40 total events on the weekend. The 400-yard medley relay opened the day, and the Quaker team of Sierra Szuhay, Emma Thompson, Maryn Herring and Audrey Bibb swum a time of 4:41.16 for a third-place finish.
Thompson also had a third-place finish in an individual swim, touching the wall in 20:37.08 in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
"We had great competition and a lot of close races, but finishing races is still something we need to work on as a team," said Breen. "It will be an area we focus on over winter break."
Wilmington will now have time to train for its annual trip to Florida before picking up the second portion of its season against the University of Mount Union on Jan. 22, 2022.
