Women's Soccer Opens OAC Play Against Heidelberg Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's soccer team opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on Saturday when Heidelberg University comes to Williams Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Heidelberg. The Fightin' Quakers enter the contest with a 6-2-0 record and on a four-game winning streak including a 1-0 shutout of Albion College on Saturday. The Student Princes finished non-conference play 5-4-1 after a recent scoreless draw with Bluffton University on Tuesday.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk enters his 27th season as Wilmington's head women's soccer coach. Spirk, a 1982 alumnus, has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournaments, eight conference championships and over 300 victories during his tenure. A member of the Wilmington Athletics Hall of Fame, Spirk was a four-time All-American and holds several of the College's men's soccer records. Nick Spell has been Heidelberg's head coach for the past 13 seasons and led the Student Princes to a 10-8-1 record last season.

The Players: Wilmington has scored 16 goals this season from 10 different players. Alex Vestal leads the team with three goals and three assists for nine total points. Four other Quakers – Kaitlin Evans, Lakyn Hupp, Paige Lane and Taylor Leake – have all scored two goals for four points. Defensively, Leda Moyer has given up just 0.74 goals per game with four shutouts. Erica Campbell leads Heidelberg offensively with six goals, four assists and 16 points.

Fast Start: Wilmington's 6-2-0 start is the program's best beginning to a season since the 2012 campaign.

Series History: Wilmington is 12-5-4 against Heidelberg since the 1994 season. The Student Princes have won the last two meetings, however, including a 1-0 victory at Williams Stadium last season. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
