WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team hung with Ohio Northern University (ONU) for a half, but the Polar Bears struck for three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half in a 5-0 victory over the Fightin' Quakers in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action on Wednesday evening.

The loss brings the Quakers to 8-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in OAC competition while the Polar Bears improve to 10-2-0 and 4-0-0 in OAC.

WIlmington started the night with good possession and a shot on goal early on, and the Quakers would hold steady with the Polar Bears until the 13th minute when Haley Moses scored from a free kick about 25 yards out.

The Polar Bears then came out very strong in the second half by scoring in the 50th minute by McKenna Welsh assisted by Jenna Fuller on a through ball behind the Quaker defense. Then in the 55th minute, Welsh got off a cross from the end line where Rose Nienaber was waiting amidst a confused Quaker defense for an easy goal. The Polar Bears would keep up the momentum with a 60th minute goal from Megan Breier with an assist from Moses. ONU rounded out the night with an 85th minute goal by Mikhayla Carter off of a corner kick from Cat Schaefer.

ONU outshot Wilmington 20-9 on its way to a fourth OAC win this season.

The Quakers continue OAC competition on the road Saturday, Oct. 13 at Marietta College. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
