Women's Soccer Travels to Mount Union for First OAC Road Test Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's soccer team faces its first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) road test on Saturday when the Fightin' Quakers travel to the University of Mount Union. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Muskingum. The Fightin' Quakers enter the contest with a 7-2-0 record and a 1-0-0 mark in OAC play after shutting out Heidelberg 1-0 on Saturday. The Purple Raiders are 4-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the OAC after defeating John Carroll University 3-0 on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk enters his 27th season as Wilmington's head women's soccer coach. Spirk, a 1982 alumnus, has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournaments, eight conference championships and over 300 victories during his tenure. A member of the Wilmington Athletics Hall of Fame, Spirk was a four-time All-American and holds several of the College's men's soccer records. Kelley Clark is in her eighth season as head coach at Mount Union. She led the Purple Raiders to their first ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2016.

The Players: Wilmington has scored 22 goals this season from 11 different players. Alex Vestal leads the team with six goals and three assists, including two goals in the win over Muskingum, for 15 total points. Five other Quakers – Kaitlin EvansLakyn HuppPaige Lane, Taylor Leake and Madison Wiedeman – have all scored at least two goals. Defensively, Leda Moyer has given up just 0.95 goals per game with five shutouts. Lauren Beech has scored four goals for Mount Union this season while Maggie O'Donnell has founds the back of the net twice.

Fast Start: Wilmington's 8-2-0 start is the program's best beginning to a season since the 2006 campaign.

Series History: Wilmington is 13-8-1 against Mount Union since becoming an NCAA Division III member prior to the 1991 season. The Purple Raiders have won the last six meetings, however. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
