Women's Soccer Travels to League Leader Otterbein Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's soccer team looks to snap a three-game losing skid on Tuesday when the Fightin' Quakers travel to Otterbein University for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Fightin' Quakers enter the contest with an 8-5-0 record and a 2-3-0 mark in OAC play after dropping a 1-0 decision at Marietta College on Saturday. The Cardinals are 11-2-0 overall and a perfect 5-0-0 in the OAC after a 6-2 triumph over Heidelberg University on Saturday.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk enters his 27th season as Wilmington's head women's soccer coach. Spirk, a 1982 alumnus, has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournaments, eight conference championships and over 300 victories during his tenure. A member of the Wilmington Athletics Hall of Fame, Spirk was a four-time All-American and holds several of the College's men's soccer records. Brandon Koons is in his 20th season as Otterbein's head coach and has led the Cardinals 11 OAC championships (six regular season and five tournament) during his tenure.

The Players: Wilmington has scored 22 goals this season from 11 different players. Alex Vestal leads the team with six goals and three assists, including two goals in the win over Muskingum last Wednesday, for 15 total points. Five other Quakers – Kaitlin Evans, Lakyn Hupp, Paige Lane, Taylor Leake and Madison Wiedeman – have all scored at least two goals. Defensively, Leda Moyer has given up 1.08 goals per game with five shutouts. Bella Shivley and Delaney Earl have combined to score 22 goals for Otterbein. In goal, Erin Gordon has allowed 1.08 goals per game in nearly 1,000 minutes in net.

Series History: Wilmington is 13-16-0 against Otterbein in the last three decades. The Cardinals have won the last five meetings, however, including winning by a score of 2-0 the previous three seasons. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
