Men's Soccer to Meet Marietta Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team looks to return to winning ways on Saturday when the Fighin' Quakers host Marietta College for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Marietta. The Quakers are 7-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the OAC after falling 4-1 at Ohio Northern University on Wednesday. The Pioneers are 6-7 overall but winless in conference play after sustaining a 2-1 loss at Capital University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his first year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Joe Bergin is in his fifth season as Marietta's head men's soccer coach. The Pioneers have qualified for the OAC Tournament each of the last two seasons.

The Players: Niklas Martensson has scored 13 of Wilmington's 29 goals as a team thus far this season. Daniel Kappelin and Benny Spirk have both scored three goals for Wilmington while Leon Tank and Ludwig Lantz have each scored twice. Seven Quakers have netted a single goal. In net, Felix Maurer has allowed 1.81 goals per game. Robert Phillips and Tom Sloan have combined to score 11 of Marietta's 20 team goals.

Series History: Wilmington is 14-5-1 against Marietta since the 1994 season. The Quakers won 3-2 last season, the last time the teams played at Williams Stadium. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.

OAC Player of the Week: Niklas Martensson is the reigning OAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. He scored three goals and assisted on two others as Wilmington finished last week with a perfect 2-0-0 record.
