Men's Soccer Looks for Third Straight Win Wednesday at Ohio Northern

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on Wednesday evening when the Fightin' Quakers travel to Ada for a 7 p.m. contest against Ohio Northern University (ONU).

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern. The Quakers are 7-4-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the OAC after slipping by The University of Mount Union 2-1 in overtime on Friday. The Polar Bears are 9-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in OAC play after defeating Muskingum University 2-0 on Saturday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his first year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Brent Ridenour, a 1995 graduate of ONU, is in his 21st season leading his alma mater. The Polar Bears finished as national runner-up in 2012.

The Players: Niklas Martensson has scored 13 of Wilmington's 28 goals as a team thus far this season. Daniel Kappelin and Benny Spirk have both scored three goals for Wilmington while Leon Tank has scored once and seven Quakers have netted a single goal. In net, Felix Maurer has allowed 1.61 goals per game. Beelal Hasan and Levi King have combined to score 17 of ONU's 34 team goals.

Series History: Wilmington is 14-10-2 against ONU since the 1991 season, but the Polar Bears have won the last five meetings. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.

OAC Player of the Week: Niklas Martensson is the reigning OAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. He scored three goals and assisted on two others as Wilmington finished last week with a perfect 2-0-0 record.
