Men's Soccer Faces Final Non-Conference Test Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team host Franklin College in the Fightin' Quakers' final non-conference contest of the season on Tuesday. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Franklin. The Quakers are 4-3-0 overall after a 4-0 shutout win over Earlham College in the Quaker Bowl Rivalry on Wednesday. The Grizzlies stand at 2-6-0 overall and recently fell to Greenville College 2-0 on Saturday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his first year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Cody Graman, a 2011 Franklin graduate, is in his second season leading the Grizzlies' men's soccer program.

The Players: Niklas Martensson has scored eight of Wilmington's 16 goals as a team thus far this season after netting a hat trick in less than six minutes in a 4-0 win over Earlham. Daniel Kappelin and Benny Spirk have both scored three goals for Wilmington while Adriel Ortiz and Leon Tank have both found the back of the net once. In goal, Felix Maurer has posted consecutive shutouts. Franklin has scored five goals this season including two from Body Coppess and Jordan Thomas as well as one from Luke Oliver.

Series History: Wilmington is a perfect 6-0-0 against Franklin in the last two decades. The last time the two teams met at Williams Stadium, the Quakers won 4-0 on Aug. 30, 2014. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
