TIFFIN, Ohio - Heidelberg University struck for a goal in the first two minutes along with a Fightin' Quaker own goal to defeat the Wilmington College men's soccer team 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

The win snapped a three-game winning streak for Wilmington, which stands at 5-4-0 overall after the loss. Heidelberg improved to 4-4-0 with the win.

Shortly after the kickoff, Porus Shroff broke free down the flank and sent a cross that found the head of Simon Joseph who buried the opening goal, the first allowed by the Quakers in over three games.

Wilmington would fire five shots in the opening 45 minutes including two on goal, but both were saved by Jake Kress. Less than a minute into the second half, Heidelberg had a chance to double its lead with a penalty kick, but Antonio Demonte's strike missed wide. Unfortunately for the Quakers, Wilmington could not take advantage of the mistake as the Quakers mustered just one shot on goal in the second half. 

Heidelberg sealed the victory with a Wilmington own goal in the 80th minute.

The Student Princes held a 13-12 edge in shots as well as a 6-3 margin in shots on goal and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Chase Pauslen took four of Heidelberg's shots including two on net.

Benny Spirk, Niklas Martensson and Treshaun Pate all took took two shots for Wilmington. Kress earned the win stopping all three shots he faced while Maurer made four saves on six shots in the loss.

Wilmington continues OAC play at Muskingum University on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
